My take on the historic Valsgarde 6 helmet constructed for SCA combat. Handcrafted, this helmet
is exceptionally clean, smooth and solid. The helm is comprised of multiple gauges of hand formed mild steel and 3/16"
rivet construction. The main banding is 13 gauge steel while the large Ys, diamonds, occular, back slats and back slat
reinforcing bar are all 10 gauge steel. The small Ys and the cheeks are made from 14 gauge steel. The grill is
of 1/4" bar stock. The bronze plaques are 1/8" thick. All openings are less than 1" to be SCA legal.
This helm is built like a tank and will provide many years of service!!
The browline measures
28" in outside circumference. The grill is approx. 7 1/4" in length from the brow to the bottom of the grill.
The back slats vertically measure 4 5/8" from the browband to the bottom of the slats. The cheeks are 5" long
from the browband to the bottom of the cheek plate at their longest point. The bronze plaques are each 1 1/4" wide
x 2" long.
The helmet is sized slightly over medium along the browline but has a medium sized
opening between the bottom of the grill and backslats. This is due to the grill tucking under the chin of the wearer
extremely well. Alittle bit tighter to put on but very protective in the chin and throat region. I have
a 23" browline and it fits me fine.
